Undergraduate medical student teaching commenced in 2003. We offer the full range of acute outpatient and inpatient services to the 380,000 people living in Central Lancashire.

Prosthetic services are provided across two sites: Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre (SMRC), Fulwood, Preston and Barrow in Furness (limited clinics).

The Specialist Mobility Rehabilitation Centre is a specifically adapted rehabilitation unit offering full prosthetic limb, orthotic and wheelchair services.

The SMRC is the North West Enhanced War Veteran Centre - one of only 9 Centres chosen in England. This entails provision of complex amputee rehabilitation to War Veterans with multiple amputations.

At the SMRC we are, totally focused in ‘Quality of Care’ and are proud to be long term, established recipients of Customer Service Excellence (previously Charter Mark) and also ISO-9001:2008 accredited.

We now require a flexible and enthusiastic individual to join our amputee rehabilitation team, who will play a key role in the delivery of high quality treatment and care for patients.

The Department provides a fully integrated upper and lower limb service to the adult and child population of Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Facilities include full clinical suite required for examination and treatment including fitting rooms, medical consulting rooms, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, casting rooms, interview rooms, separate paediatric rooms, separate upper and lower limb rooms, cast rectification, lamination, workshop, machine room, administration office and store room. The unit is fully supported by the Royal Preston Hospital and the comprehensive outpatient service such as Pharmacy and Radiology.

The department supports a full Multidisciplinary team including Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, Specialist Physiotherapist, Specialist Occupational Therapist, Senior Sister, Health Care Assistants, Psychologist, Assistant Practitioners, Prosthetists, Orthotists, Technician and Rehabilitation Engineers.

There are close links with the Department of Vascular Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Radiology and Diabetology in Royal Preston Hospital, and many Consultants work across both sites within the Trust
