Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for an Orthogeriatric Speciality Doctor. We provide a wide range of general hospital services to 390,000 people from the Chorley, South Ribble and Preston areas, and several specialist services to around 1.6 million people from Lancashire and South Cumbria, including establishing the region’s major trauma centre at Royal Preston Hospital.
The Orthopaedic Department has 17 Orthopaedic Consultants with approximately 480 femoral neck fracture admissions each year.
We are looking to increase our Orthogeriatric input, and this post would be integral to the continuing medical management of patients with femoral neck fractures. This post would provide daily input to the Orthopaedic unit, to improve pre-operative optimisation and to lead the medical management of these patients post-operatively, and to coordinate the subsequent rehabilitation process. The unit also treats elderly patients with femoral shaft fractures and other fragility fractures. It is envisaged that the post holder will assist in the medical management of these patients. This post will work under supervision of the Orthogeriatric consultant and support her. The post holder should have varying experience in the different medical specialities especially geriatric medicine to manage the elderly and frail cohort of patients.
The post holder will participate in regular audit meetings.
This post will have support from the current Orthogeriatric Consultant, one FY2 trainee in Orthogeriatrics, and an Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
It is for a fixed term for a year, starting as soon as possible.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
