A requirement for a Post CCT Spinal Fellow has arisen within the Orthopaedic Department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which provides a wide range of elective Orthopaedic services, tertiary services and is the Major Trauma Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. You would be a participant on a 1 in 10 middle grade rota for Orthopaedics in a Major Trauma Centre covering Orthopaedic and Spinal Trauma and would be required to work across both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital.
This is a 6 month fixed term post extendable to another 6 months and you would need to be available to commence with the Trust early December, but we can be flexible and a suitable start date could be arranged with the successful applicant. This post is not formally approved for training, but we would provide a study leave budget for attendance at national trauma courses and conferences.
This post will provide complex spinal experience in a tertiary Orthopaedic spinal Unit and a major trauma centre and would be suitable for a person wishing to obtain post CCT Spinal Fellowship level experience, having completed a minimum of six years of Orthopaedic middle grade experience, with a minimum of 12 months of previous spinal experience.
As a Spinal Fellow, your role would get exposure in non-operative and operative management of wide spectrum of Cervical and Thoraco Lumbar spinal conditions including degenerative conditions, deformity correction, traumatic conditions, metastatic diseases and infective condition. There is plenty of opportunity for 'hands on' surgical experience, available you if you are the right candidate.
Close working relationship exist with Neurosurgeons, as joint operating is done with Pelvic Surgeons for Complex Spinal and Pelvic injuries. The Spinal Unit excels in academic and research activities. The unit runs popular education event every year called ‘Spine Class Preston’ that attracts national participation. The unit is also responsible to run the Spine Module for North West Orthopaedic Registrar rotation and the successful candidate will be expected to participate in educational activities. The unit also has an active research programme and has numerous presentations and awards at various national meetings.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust forms one of the major acute Trusts in the North West with all of the usual specialties on site as well as being a Tertiary Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria for Neurosciences (including pituitary surgery), Oncology, Trauma, Plastic Surgery and Burns and Renal Medicine.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
