Lancashire Teaching Hospitals (Lead Provider for adult radiotherapy services for Lancashire and South Cumbria) are looking to recruit experienced, independent, creative thinking Therapeutic Radiographers with the skills, enthusiasm and vision to work across professional and organisational boundaries to expand and develop Clinical Oncology services.

As a Consultant Therapeutic Radiographer you will be a key member of the Oncology multidisciplinary team, working as an autonomous, expert practitioner with responsibility for assessing and treating your own caseload of patients receiving radiotherapy as treatment for cancer. You will act as an expert resource and senior clinical lead advising own and other specialist services across the region. The post holder will operate at a “higher level of practice” consistent with the standards outlined by the Society and College of Radiographers, the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and in accordance with local and national policies.

There is scope to be flexible with disease site specialisation and we are in a position to consider those wishing to work on a part time basis. Suitably experienced therapeutic radiographers working at or toward advanced practice level currently, and wishing to progress to consultant level practice, are encouraged to apply as appointment to a supported developmental role will be considered for the right candidate.

The successful applicants will join a large multi-professional team of Consultant Clinical Oncologists, Clinical Scientists and Therapeutic Radiographers.  You will be part of an established senior team who are forward thinking and development focused. Oncology Services are based in a purpose built centre at our Royal Preston Hospital site, which saw a large expansion in 2012 co-locating chemotherapy and out-patient services alongside radiotherapy. The Radiotherapy department was further expanded in 2013/14, providing state-of-the art external beam radiotherapy from a complement of seven fully IMRT/IGRT enabled linear accelerators, including intracranial SRS/T and SABR, as well as a superficial unit for treatment of skin cancers. A second chemotherapy unit was opened in 2017 at the Chorley site, continuing the investment into Oncology services in the organisation.

The Consultant Therapeutic Radiographer will provide leadership and consultancy as well as develop and implement best practice in higher levels of the oncology service, enabling oncology services to further develop by providing expert practice, leadership, education and advising commissioners and clinical directors. You will enhance practice and research capability, with the opportunity to provide professional clinical input to regional, national and international multidisciplinary research programmes. Within the agreed area of specialism, the post holder will be responsible for the education and professional development for all disciplines of staff including specialist registrars/clinical fellows, contributing to the delivery of educational programmes, delivered by the organisation and outside providers as appropriate. Through collaboration with universities the post holder will provide post graduate education within their specialism for the multi-professional team and where applicable work with universities to develop and deliver post graduate education programmes. They will lead on practice and service development through the application of research and evaluation within the site specialism.
