Preston Microbiology Services at Royal Preston Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist (BMS) – Band 5 experienced in working in a Clinical Microbiology Laboratory

 The microbiology department has UKAS accreditation and processes approx 509,000 tests per year.  Equipment includes POS instrument, BactAlert blood culture system, Maldi-TOF, Vitek 2, Cepheid Gene Xpert,UF1000 analysers, Cobas 4800, Cobas 601, easy mag, Vidas and liaison analysers.

 The department is accredited for training of BMS staff and is approved for the training of medical microbiologists.

 Applications are invited from suitably qualified HCPC Biomedical Scientists (Microbiology) to join our clinical microbiology team.  You will be expected to have practical post registration experience of working in a clinical microbiology department and can provide evidence supporting this.

 The successful candidate should be well motivated, have proven technical and communication skills, clinical microbiology knowledge and a strong interest in further developing their career. 

 A commitment to participate in the out of hours on-call service to provide emergency work is essential.

 You will be expected to work 37.5 hours flexibly between 8.00 a.m. and 8.00 p.m. Monday – Friday and 8.00 a.m. – 6.00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and rostered Bank Holidays.
