The Trust is committed to development of our Specialty Doctors. A first of its kind in the UK, we have agreed and committed ourselves to provide all SAS doctors, a personal career progression pathway with support to become autonomous practitioners if they aspire to do so.

We are ideally looking for doctors seeking 1 to 2 year fixed term or permanent positions and who are happy to to cover either a pure Intensivist post or a combination of Intensivist/Anaesthetist.

These posts will be initially based within the Intensive (Critical) Care Unit with possible additional Anaesthetics sessions depending on individual skills and interest.

Those seeking pure Intensivist posts would work 100% time within the Intensive (Critical) Care Unit and have the opportunity to develop theatre experience depending on individual career and training needs. Those seeking a combined Intensivist/Anaesthetist post would work 60% Intensive (Critical) Care and 40% Anaesthetics with out of hour’s duties on Intensive (Critical) Care.

As a Specialty doctor within the Intensive (Critical) Care Unit you will have the opportunity to gain significant experience across all specialities, including Major Trauma, Neurosurgery, Plastics, Major Maxillofacial, General and Upper GI surgery as well as General Medical Admissions.

The Intensive (Critical) Care Unit department in Preston currently has 24 beds, (14 beds at Level 3), whilst Chorley has 4 beds at Level 2/3.

The departments have strong links to the University of Manchester Medical School, and are heavily involved in education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; this include a state of the art simulation centre. Funding for the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) exists for suitable, successful candidates.

The department has also developed a strong research base within the opportunity for involvement in National and Local Trials.

Salaries for the above post will be on the Specialty Doctor pay scale based on 10 PA’s with an additional 2 PA’s available.
