We have a very exciting opportunity for career enhancement for registered nurses who have an interest in surgery, to join the dynamic colo-rectal team on a 6 month secondment. We are looking for committed, enthusiastic and motivated nurses.
You will be expected to support the delivery of quality care to all our patients and provide the patients with a positive experience whilst in hospital. You will have proven leadership skills and the ability to problem solve, effectively communicate with patients and all members of the MDT. As a Band 6 nurse you will have the ability to support the Ward Manager in providing a unified approach to achieving high standards of safe care and constant support for junior staff and student nurses in practice.
Our Acute Colorectal Surgical ward has 32 beds. It is a fast-paced, challenging but a very rewarding environment, where as a Team we are committed in providing the highest standards of care and pride ourselves in supporting all our staff, to learn and develop. This is achieved by a dedicated nursing team, clinical nurse specialists and seven colorectal surgeons. The ward has two nurse educators working on the ward with staff, there role would be to fully support your development of the skills and knowledge required of a Band 6 Ward Sister but you would also have the support of a dynamic, highly motivated ward manager.
You will gain experience working on our emergency/elective admissions ward and have the opportunity to build on your competency for recruitment and selection of staff, staff appraisals and personal development plans.
We work collaboratively with other disciplines, including the nutrition team, therapists, specialist nurses, pain and palliative specialists. This aims to provide you with excellent opportunities for career development by enhancing your knowledge and skills.
We also have a strong track record in education; you will gain experience and competencies in enteral feeding devices including PEG, Naso-Gastric Tubes and Nasal Bridles, management of central lines, Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN), epidural pain management and stoma management and the care of colo-rectal patient’s pre & post-surgical intervention.
