Applications are invited for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individual to join our friendly and well established Elderly Medicine team in the Directorate of Medicine at the Royal Preston Hospital, part of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust is a large and high profile teaching centre in the Northwest with a range of tertiary services including Neurosciences, and now also hosts the Major Trauma Centre as well as regional vascular services. 

The Medicine for the Elderly Unit provides facilities for both acute and rehabilitation patients along with appropriate multi-disciplinary support team. There is an established specialist outpatient falls service.

Medicine for the Elderly has expanded recently with the establishment of the nationally award winning proactive elderly care team (PECT) and more recently Lancashire Integrated Frailty Team (LIFT) at Preston. The team has been pioneering in screening for delirium and dementia in the elderly as well as providing comprehensive geriatric assessments.

The department has recently established a surgical liaison (POPS) service with proactive in reach into GI surgery and major trauma areas.

The post holder will be based at Preston site and will be responsible for inpatient elderly care beds and expanding the POPS service into other surgical areas. They will also be expected to contribute towards future departmental developments and 7-day working. The post holder will contribute to the general medical rota on a pro-rata basis. There will be opportunity to develop as a clinical teacher supervising various grades of trainee. The successful applicant will be supported to join our accredited consultant leadership and management training programme.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
