Applications are invited from enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individuals to join our friendly and well established team within the Department of Acute Medicine at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which is a major teaching Trust in the North West of England.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is located centrally to motorway networks and major cities of Liverpool and Manchester. Lancashire is also located forty minutes from the Lake District which is now a world heritage site.

These substantive posts have been newly created as part of a programme involving major expansion of the Acute Medicine department across the both sites and form the first wave of recruitment in Acute Medicine with plans to expand consultant team further in order to have a team of 10 consultants to provide a seamless 7 day service.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a large and high profile teaching centre in the Northwest Deanery with a range of tertiary services including Nephrology and Neuro-Surgery along with development of Regional Trauma Centre. This location provides many attractive places to live with easy access to the beauty of the Lake District and commuter links to Manchester.

The post attracts ten programmed activities which will allow for providing a leadership role in Acute Medicine service both at Medical Assessment Unit, Emergency Medical Decisions Unit (a dedicated combined assessment unit unit) and short stay unit, along with teaching opportunities for the junior medical staff who rotate through the acute medicine arena. An internal development and support programme is available for newly appointed Consultants to ensure individuals’ professional development needs are achieved.

Applicant should have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist register within 6 months of achieving a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Acute Internal Medicine or General Internal Medicine.

If you are successful in obtaining a position with our Trust which involves working with patients, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Check. As a registered body with the DBS, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust will conduct the administration of this application on your behalf and the cost will be recovered from your salary, either as a one-off payment or over 3 months. Currently the charges made by the Disclosure and Barring Service for an Enhanced DBS check is £48.20.

Successful applicants will be contacted by e-mail. Please ensure that email addresses are provided for your referees wherever possible.
