Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic experienced Theatre Scrub Practitioner to take on the responsibility of Team Leader in one of our 13 theatres at Chorley. The Day Case service is also moving to Chorley Hospital imminently and will bring an additional 6 new theatres. The ideal candidate will possess experience in the following specialties: Robotic surgery, plastics, max fax, breast & colo-rectal.

 

 

Main duties of the job

You will be acting as an expert clinical resource within theatres and take direct managerial responsibility for the clinical area in the absence of the Clinical Manager or Theatre co-ordinator as well as assisting in the leadership and development of all theatre staff.

You must be either a registered General Nurse with extensive scrub experience or an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) in order to lead our enthusiastic theatre scrub & theatre support worker teams.

You will be expected to have extensive experience in a variety of procedures and have enthusiasm for change and take forward new ideas. Applicants must have excellent communication, influencing and leadership skills and thrive in a busy team environment.   • Assist and support the Clinical Manager in the safe and effective management of the service including management of staff, facilities and associated systems and processes.
  • Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care
  • Acts as a role model presenting a positive image of self, the team and the organisations
  • Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, making optimal use of operating sessions. Identify potential bottlenecks and facilitate smooth patient flow through the department.
  • Ensure a high standard of service delivery is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines.
  • Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to improve the patient experience and outcome of care
  • Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • • Registered nurse / ODP with current NMC/ HCPC registration
  • • Extensive experience in Scrub
  • • Evidence of current and continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • • Degree in related health care area
  • • Level 3 ILM (Institute of leadership and Management) or equivalent.
  • • Core people management skill

  • • Awareness of changes in practice and the ability to implement change
  • • Knowledge of escalation and cancellation processes
  • • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
